Historiscope Interactive

The Historiscope was a popular educational children’s toy made by Milton Bradley & Co. for nearly thirty years beginning in the 1860s. A child used the cranks at the top of the box to turn a scroll of colored lithographs containing twenty-four scenes of colonial and revolutionary America. The Historiscope originally came with a script children could use to explain the scenes, and tickets and a poster advertising the “show.”

This interactive allows you to experience the twelve Revolutionary War scenes of the Historiscope as its maker intended. Move the scenes forward and back within the box, and choose to read the script alongside the images or view the lithographs on their own.
